Wa, April 29, GNA – The Upper West Region, which is noted for peace and unity is gradually heading towards war as two communities, Nimoru and Fielimoa are preparing to take up arms over a disputed land. Reports reaching Ghana News Agency indicate that both communities are arming themselves and it is only a matter of time before war begins. A source said that the Nimoru people, who are from the Sissala ethnic group, gave some land to the Fielimoa people, who are from the Dagaaba ethnic group some years back to settle.
It is alleged that the Fielimoa people had gone beyond the limit of land that was given them and are encroaching on other parts of the land belonging to the Nimoru people. The source said the Fielimoa people had also started selling the land to private developers and that had infuriated the Nimoru people, who have asked the Fielimoa people to stop selling the land. This directive had not gone well with the people of Fielimoa and there is serious agitation going on and it about time the security agencies and other prominent chiefs from the region intervene for a dialogue to avert a war, the source said.
