Kwamo (Ash), Sept 5, GNA – The Kwamo Concerned Citizens have expressed worry about an emerging disunity and confusion that had characterised the nomination of one of five candidates vying for the vacant Kwamo stool by the Queenmother. The concerned citizens observed that since the nomination of one Mr Kwaku Owusu, a businessman, for consideration as chief of Kwamo, there has been division in the town signalling that majority of the royal family members were not in favour of the choice. This was contained in a statement issued at Kwamo, near Kumasi on Saturday by the concerned citizens and signed by its vice-chairman, Mr Andrews Opoku.
The Kwamo stool became vacant following the abdication of Nana Osei Amoako Mensah II some months ago.
The statement did not mention names of the four other candidates. “The current division, disunity and confusion is a result of the fact that most of the royal family and majority of members of the community are opposed to the present nominee,” it said. The concerned citizens stated that they were not opposed to the right of the Queenmother, Nana Yaa Serwah to nominate a candidate, but their concern was that such a candidate should be acceptable by majority of the people.
The statement held that if majority of the people have rejected the candidate, it would undermine the resolve of the people to undertake development projects and communal labour as was currently happening. They therefore appealed to the Queen Mother and elders of Kwamo, “for the sake of peace, harmony and development”, take a second look at their nominee.
