Concerned citizens charge Assembly to clear refuse

Ahwerase (E/R), Jan. 15, GNA- Concerned citizens at Ahwerase in the Akwapim South District have called on the district assembly to take immediate steps to clear “mountains” of refuse dumps and toilets overflowing with human excreta to prevent the outbreak of an epidemic. They said the stench from the refuse dumps and toilets that had not been removed for several months had become a source of discomfort and an eyesore to residents and visitors.

Mr Kwabena Sakyiamah and Miss Gladys Akwele, both residents, who conducted the Ghana News Agency (GNA) round complained that the Assembly member who resides in Accra had failed to fulfil his promise to do something about the situation.

“People living around these places are really suffering and we are only lucky that there is no epidemic yet,” Mr Sakyiamah said. The two citizens said any outbreak would be disastrous and called on the authorities including the Ministry of health to address the issue urgently.

The Assembly member was said to be in Accra when the GNA tried to contact him on the matter. 15 Jan 04
