Nkawkaw, June 10, GNA – A group calling itself the Concern New Patriotic Party (NPP) Coalition, in the Nkawkaw Constituency, on Friday undertook a two-hour peaceful demonstration at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
The group called for an early parliamentary primary to elect a candidate, to contest the 2012 Parliamentary Election on NPP ticket in the constituency.
The supporters, clad in NPP T-shirts and red bands, matched through the principal streets of the town amidst brass band music.
They carried placards some of which read 93we want a date”, “we need our date”, “Nkawkaw is for us”, 93our destiny is in our hands”, 93everyone is welcome” and “we assure you of 47,000 votes”.
A six-point resolution, signed by the seven-member executive of the group and read by its Secretary, Mr Zainu Mohammed, called on NPP national executives to as a matter of urgency announce a definite date for the election before the end of this year.
The resolution advised that all qualified NPP aspirants in the constituency should be allowed to contest the primary, adding that party regulations should not be bent in favour of any particular candidate.
The group explained that an early contest would enable the winner have enough time to forge a formidable front to help him win the 2012 Parliamentary Elections.
The resolution denied that the incumbent Member of Parliament of the constituency, Mr Seth Adjei-Baah, is a member of the NPP as he stated in a law suit at the High Court at Nkawkaw in January this year.
It said members of the Coalition have taken the 93bull by the horn” and pledged to work together to deliver a resounding victory for the party in 2012.
