Concern about low level of integrity among Ghanaians

Aburi(E/R), March 26, GNA – Professor (Mrs) Akosua Adomako Ampofo, a Lecturer at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, has expressed concern about the low level of Ghanaians with conviction and integrity in the society.

She said few Ghanaians were prepared to uphold the truth at the peril of their lives and few privileges they enjoyed and such developments should be a source of worry to patriotic citizens. Professor Ampofo was speaking at the 56th Annual Speech and Prize Giving Day of Aburi Girls’ Secondary School at Aburi on Saturday. She appealed to authorities of second cycle institutions to make character training and formation a core part of their work to help students acquire time-tested values that would help them develop as worthy citizens.

“Ghana needs a cadre of citizens who are meticulous, focused and are willing to place their talents at the disposal of the nation and not just people with high sounding academic credentials but morally weak,” she added.

Mrs Sylvia Asempa, Headmistress of the school, said the school continued to produce sterling academic performances in addition to producing dedicated and disciplined all-round students as evidenced in the performance of its past students in national life.

She said the school had 99.79 per cent passes at the maiden West African Senior Secondary Examinations (WASSE) last year and was poised to achieve its target of 100 per cent passes.

Mrs Asempa expressed appreciation to the role played by old students of the school towards revitalizing the school’s infrastructure for better performances. Prizes were presented to deserving students and teachers.
