Concern about insanitary conditions at Assin North

Assin-Fosu(C/R), July 11, GNA – Dr Nii Adjetey, Assin North District Director of Health Services, on Monday deplored the insanitary conditions under which most food vendors operate within the district. He said this had resulted in an outbreak of cholera within the district, with 40 cases including the death of a person, recorded within the past two weeks.

Dr Adjetey expressed these concerns, when addressing about 500 women from various women’s organizations in Assin North District at a seminar on “Government policies for women’s empowerment and impact” at Assin Fosu.

The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, organized the seminar to explain various government policies geared towards the welfare of women and children, and to encourage women to avail themselves to financial and other assistance being offered.

Dr Adjetey therefore, advised the public to desist from buying food from such vendors and asked the women to ensure clean and healthy surroundings both at home and where they sell their wares. He stressed that they should wash their hands with soap after attending to nature’s call and desist from exposing food items to flies and dust.

Dr Adjetey said an Insecticide Treated Bed net cost 20,000 cedis and asked the people to report any health worker who sold the net above the stipulated price to the district health administration.
