A DISABILITY rights advocacy group, called Ghana Against Disability (GAD) in collaborationwith Techknowledgy UK and its local representatives Techknowledgy Ghana, an NGO, is initiating the opening of a Computer Skills Training Centre for the disabled and disadvantaged youth.
The proposed centre, which also has the support of Mr. Kingsford Ofosu-Boateng, an educationist and philanthropist, would soon open in Kumasi.
Ofosu-Boateng has donated accommodation for the project at Dichemso in Kumasi.
According to the President of GAD, Mr. Yaw Poku Attakora-Asamoah, Jnr., Techknowledgy Ghana has pledged to supply 30 computers for the project, which is to cater for the youth who cannot afford the high fees charged by existing centers.
The project, Attakora-Asamoah said, would place much emphasis on the provision of computer skills for the disabled who cannot take advantage of existing programmes due to architectural barriers.
The purpose is to ensure job security for the unemployed disabled and enhance employment opportunities.
GAD’s president appealed to corporate, religious and professional bodies, associations, groups and individuals to support the project.
