Accra, March 9, GNA – Miss Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive of Ghana Chamber of Mines, on Wednesday said there was the need for individuals to be empowered with sufficient knowledge in Information Technology to function effectively.
Launching a computers literacy book in Accra, she said with the present technological age, it was imperative for people to learn and imbibe knowledge so as to lead fulfilled lives.
The 250-text titled ‘Introduction to Computer Fundamentals’ seeks to expound computer literacy among learners at all levels and contains useful information that beginners and advanced users require to lay solid premise to embrace hard and soft wares components of the computer.
Its organisation follows principles of modern methodology with simple abstraction that gradually walks readers through a more advanced stuff without feeling the pinch.
Miss Aryee said: “Let us appropriate our abilities and capabilities to fit into the modern age else we will be left behind the rapidly changing trend of things’.
Mr Kwasi Adu-Gyan, Director of Information Technology (IT) at the Ministry of Communication noted that the Government recognizing the potentials of ICT to addressing the challenges faced by the rural communities had taken steps to ensure that they were not left out of the benefits it brings.
“A number of efforts are being made across the nation to harness the power of ICT to foster economic and social development as well as poverty reduction”.
He noted that Community Information Centres (CIC) were being established in the districts to provide business services, citizenry services and community development information services to the rural folks to keep them abreast with current affairs.
Mr Bright Siaw Afriyie, Author of the book, indicated that the piece was his small contribution towards the Government’s effort at using ICT for accelerated economic growth.
He called for intensive study into ICT to ensure that the capacity of the device was utilized to its optimal level.
Mr Afriyie urged Ghanaians to patronize the book to enhance the knowledge in Information Communication and Technology to better their lives. 09 March 05
