Comply with Public Order Act – Police Commander

Akim-Tafo, July 15, GNA – The Tafo District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Buabeng, has reminded organisers of public functions to notify the police not less than five days ahead in compliance with the Public Order Act.

He said apart from Church and other religious services, which were regular, all other public activities such as demonstrations, rallies and processions required the notification of the law enforcement agencies. DSP Buabeng was addressing a forum organized by the East Akim District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Wednesday, for artisans at New Tafo to educate them on the Act.

The District Coordinator of the NCCE, Mr Franklin Boafo, said it was one of the series by the Commission to sensitise identifiable groups on the provisions of the constitution and the duties of a citizen. He explained that since this was an election year, the NCCE was focusing on the Act to enable the people to know their rights responsibilities in ensuring peace and harmony during political activities such as rallies.

Mr Boafo said it was also to make the constitution an “open document” to all in line with the duties of the NCCE to ensure that citizens were knowledgeable about the fundamental laws of the country. He advised the artisans to comport themselves during political campaigns and to desist from acts likely to provoke members of other parties.
