Complete the “Unfinished Agenda”- Tsikata

Accra Feb. 22, GNA – Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, former Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) on Thursday called on members of the Conventions Peoples Party (CPP) to help complete the “unfinished agenda” of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

“The unfinished agenda was to develop the nations natural and human resources to resolve problems like poverty, provision of potable water, good health service and others”, he said. The Former GNPC boss said this in Accra at one of a series of public forums organized by the Socialist Forum to deliberate on the state of the nation and the way forward.

According to him the, Dr. Nkrumah also had an objective of mobilizing and uniting the African continent to manage its own affairs and that it was pathetic that some members of CPP were opposing the legacy of Dr Nkrumah claming his time had past. Mr.Tsikata said the move by the ruling New Patriotic Party to make the private sector the engine of the national economy contradicted with what Dr Nkrumah planned for the nation.

He said most of the private businesses came to exploit the nation’s natural resources to gain more profit before fulfilling their corporate social responsibility at the expense of the country. Touching on the nation’s 50th Anniversary celebration, he said a patriot like Dr. Nkrumah was not recognized as the person who fought for this country but rather credit was given to members of Unite Gold Cost Convention (UGCC).

Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a staunch member of CPP in his remarks said the NPP claimed it had done well in many sectors, including the micro economy, but the ordinary Ghanaian was complaining of hunger. He said the government of the day had also failed to provide potable water to the citizenry both in the urban and in the rural areas adding, “people are still living in the stone age where they use stone to grind herbs to cure disease such as malaria”.
