COMOG submits Hajj Conference Report

Accra, June 7, GNA – The Government is committed to assisting and co-operating with the Muslim Leadership to ensure the avoidance of difficulties and frustrations experienced by Ghanaian Pilgrims in the performance of the Hajj.

The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama said this when he received the report of the National Conference on Hajj on behalf of the Government at the Castle Osu on June 1.

A statement by the Coalition of Muslim Organisations, Ghana (COMOG) in Accra on Wednesday said Alhaji Mahama thanked the Committee for the good work done and said a final report would be prepared with the recommendations of another report submitted by a fact finding committee on the Hajj.

The statement said the 63-page report was submitted by a COMOG delegation led by Major Alhaji Mohammed Easah (rtd) to the Vice President.

The statement signed by Alhaji Mohammed Baba Alhassan, General Secretary of COMOG, said the report recommended among other things, how to inject sanity, discipline, professionalism and orderliness into the organisation of Hajj in Ghana.

It said the Organising Committee of the Conference received more than 100 memoranda and write-ups, including a special report from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in connection with the subject matter of the Conference.

The statement added that COMOG would continue with its consultations and collaboration with Government and all stakeholders to ensure that Ghanaian Pilgrims did not go through the distressful and agonizing experiences in the performance of Hajj. 7 June 2005
