Gyankobaa (Ash), Dec 05, GNA – The chiefs and people of Gyankobaa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District have organized a fund-raising harvest in aid of their 110 million-cedi electrification project. Mr Kwame Paul, chairman of the Gyankobaa unit committee, told the Ghana News Agency that the project was started in 1995 but stalled due to lack of support from the government.
He said the people have purchased 28 low-tension poles at the cost of 10 million cedis.
Mr Paul said the community needed 100 million cedis to buy additional 72 low-tension poles to complete the project.
He said a special levy of 50,000 and 30,000 cedis have been imposed on every male and female resident while non-resident citizens are paying 100,000 cedis each for the completion of the project. Mr Charles Henry Poku, unit committee secretary, expressed regret that all the surrounding towns, Hwidiem, Toase and Trabuom, have been supplied with electricity with exception of Gyankobaa that is only one-and-half miles from Hwidiem.
