Community protests against shoddy job execution by contractors

Dabaa (Ash), July 29, GNA – The people of Dabaa in the Atwima District have protested against the shoddy work done by ‘EDMAC Construction’, the contractors working on the 10.5 -kilometre road running through the community from Akropong to link the Kumasi-Barekese road.

They said portions of the road that had already been tarred had started showing signs of deterioration. The surface has peeled off resulting in the development of several potholes. The people made the protest during an open forum they held with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, Mr James Adusei Sarkodie at Dabaa.

They are demanding that the contractors should either be compelled to do a more efficient and satisfactory job or the contract be terminated and re-awarded.

“We want to see a better job that gives value for money.” Mr Sarkodie said the concerns raised by the people were legitimate and gave the assurance that he would take it up with the appropriate authorities.

The MP said as part of measures to promote effective political administration and the management of the area’s financial resources the government had decided to create another district out of the Atwima District.

Mr Sarkodie, at another meeting with the chiefs and people of Akropong, donated 10 million cedis out of his share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund to improve conditions at the Akropong Hospital. He also promised to use 20 million cedis out of his share of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to rehabilitate the local junior secondary school.
