Community Facilitators course on girls’ education ends.

Kodie (Ash), Nov. 5, GNA- Miss Emelia Grace Aikins, Kwabre District Girls Education Co-ordinator has called on parents to provide the basic needs of their children as a way of retaining them in school.

She also called on parents and guardians to encourage girls who become pregnant while in school to continue their education after giving birth. Miss Aikins was addressing the closing session of a two-day community facilitators training on girls’ education, attended by members of School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent/Teacher Association (PTA) at Kodie of the Kwabre district on Wednesday.

The workshop was to equip the 24 facilitators to become more effective in mobilising community support to enrol girls in school, and to also improve their access to education.

She stressed the need for parents and guardians to properly and effectively monitor and control the behaviour and movement of their children, especially girls, so that they do not become victims of circumstances.

Miss Aikins urged the participants to exercise maximum restraint in all provocations, and do their best to mobilise their communities to help improve education.

Miss Mercy Serwaa-Nyarko, a Training facilitator, said it was crucial for parents to visit their children in schools to know not only their problems, but also the challenges facing teachers. She called on children to be serious with their books to justify investment made on them.
