Community arrests Fulani herdsmen for robbery

Hohoe, (V/R) July 01, GNA – The inhabitants of Dormabin and its adjoining communities in the newly created Krachie East District on Tuesday arrested three out of six Fulani herdsmen of foreign extraction who robbed, assaulted and seized the wares of traders at gun-point on June 26, this year. The armed robbers who were handed over to the police are, Amadou Gullen, 30, Amidu Sedibe, 26, both Burkinabe’s and Iddrisa Ali, 18, a Nigerien.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Michael Godknows Kobla, Hohoe Divisional Commander, briefing the GNA said the six robbers at 2230 Hrs. intercepted a Benz Bus with registration number GR 964 G with passengers, mostly traders from Koforidua and Accra en route to Dambai, capital of the new district. He said at the outskirts of Dormabin where the robbers had barricaded the road, they commandeered the passengers to come out amidst firing of gunshots.

ACP Kobla said the robbers then seized mobile phones, monies, cloths, fabric and assaulted the passengers. He said, after collecting enough items from the passengers, the robbers led into the bush amidst indiscriminate firing of gunshots.

Mr Kobla said news of the incident which spread like a wild fire galvanised neighbouring communities to jointly pursue the robbers until one group of the robbers were arrested with the others still at large. He said some of the stolen items were found on the three. Meanwhile, Amaduo has been identified to a previous robber at Abotoase in the Jasikan District, last year and was granted bail.

Also, a policeman, (name withheld) who was a victim of an armed robbery on May 6, 2004, at Dambai had identified Amaduo as one of the people who assaulted and seized their monies and other valuables.
