Communities urged to provide decent accommodation for teachers

Nyamebekyere (B/A), July 6, GNA – Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education has advised communities wishing to start basic schools to provide decent accommodation for teachers. Mr Agyemang-Badu was addressing the people at Nyamebekyere, a farming community during a visit to inspect facilities being provided for the opening of a new school.

He said much as he appreciated the people’s efforts to promote education, he would also expect the communities, to ensure that teachers to be posted there would feel comfortable.

The District Director gave the assurance that if they provided accommodation for the teachers as well as decent classrooms, he would help to open the school.

Mr Agyemang-Badu called on opinion leaders in the area to register all children of school-going age and enrol them, explaining that the opening of a school depended on enrolment. He appealed to the Nkoranza District Assembly to support settler-farming communities that lacked schools to put up structures for the opening of more schools.

Nana Kwadwo Ayirebi, Odikro of Nyamebekyere, announced that more than 70 children had been registered for the school. “There was a school here but it collapsed when the structure, put up with local materials got burnt and the two teachers serving in the school were posted to other schools”, he said. The people have appointed two volunteer teachers to manage the school pending its official opening.

Nyamebekyere is on the Nkoranza-Ejura Highway and school children Walk about four kilometres to get to the nearest school at either Ayerede or Pruso. 6 July 05
