Communities Urged To Patronize Community Schools

Abutia-Teti,(Volta Region), 7 Oct.,

Communities have been advised to put their differences behind them and patronise community senior secondary and technical schools in their areas. Any boycott of such facilities will defeat the purpose of siting schools near them as a means of making second cycle education accessible to the children at affordable costs. Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Agbenaza (rtd), Volta Regional Minister gave the advice when he commissioned the first phase of a 140 million-cedi senior secondary-technical school in the Abutia traditional area at Abutia-Teti yesterday. The three blocks of classrooms and workshops, offices, a KVIP and ten sewing machines were provided with financial assistance from the Society for Solidarity Development Cooperation (GSE), a German non- governmental organisation. Col Agbenaza appealed to parents in some Abutia communities who have refused to send their children to the school to rescind their decision. He urged the parents not to force their children to pursue the secondary component of the second-cycle education against their inclinations because this tends to jeopardise their future development and marketability.
