Communities urged to participate in development activities

Mr Joseph Cudjoe, Member of Parliament (MP) for Effia, on Monday, called on his constituents to get actively involved in the development of their communities.

He made the call at a community meeting at Effiakuma New Site, organized Mr Isaac Badu-Nkansah, Assemblyman for Effiakuma East Electoral Area.

Mr Cudjoe said the communal spirit is low in some communities, saying that many people are not showing interest in the development of their communities.

He urged the people to relegate their political affiliations to the background and join forces to develop the area.

Mr Joseph Armoo, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), discussed with the gathering on the constitutional provisions on communal participation in development.

He said the country needed to concentrate on development as the elections are over.

Mr Armoo urged the people not to leave the development of their areas entirely in the hands of their MPs and Assembly members, and urged them to attend meetings organized by their elected representatives to express their views on issues of concern.

The residents expressed displeasure at the street naming exercise in the area saying names given to some streets were inappropriate, and moreso the authorities had ignored their suggestions.
