Communities urged not to be hostile to teachers

Ntoboroso (Ash), Aug. 13, GNA – A community that is hostile to teachers can never improve its literacy level, Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, Assistant Director of Education at Atwima District Education Directorate has said.

Mr Asare-Bediako was speaking at the inauguration of the Ntoboroso School Management Committee and Parent Teachers Association (PTA) at Ntoboroso in Atwima District on Tuesday.

He appealed to the SMC and PTA Executives to always be accountable to the people and set good leadership examples worthy of copying. Mr Asade-Bediako said lack of decent accommodation; deplorable school infrastructure and poor school-community relationship were the major factors that discouraged some teachers from accepting postings to the rural areas.

Mr Peter Mensah, an Elder of the town, appealed to parents and guardians to restrain their wards from patronising video centres, funerals and other social functions at the expense of their studies.

Mr Jackson Kofi Nti-Karikari, Chairman of the SMC, announced a plan by the community to build houses for teachers and called on residents, non-resident citizens the District Assembly, organisations and individuals to donate in cash or in kind to enable the project to be completed on schedule.

Mr Nti-Karikari deployed the attitude of some residents, who defecate in classrooms and warned that any offender caught in the disgraceful acts would be severely dealt with. 13 Aug. 03
