Communities must regenerate education delivery in schools-Obeng-Darko

Nyinahin (Ash), July 23, GNA- The Ghana Education Service (GES) is committed to empowering communities to play a major role in the management basic schools.

This is because communities have an important role to play in enforcing standards, developing and maintaining school infrastructure and creating a partnership between teachers, pupils and district authorities to enhance teaching and learning.

Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Director of Education, who also has oversight responsibility for the Atwima-Mponua district, said these at separate workshops, at Kwanfinfin and Nyinahin. The programmes were organised by the directorate for School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Association (PTAs) and headteachers from Adienbra, Kwanfinfin, Sreso-Timpom, Nyinahin and Tanodumase Circuits in the districts.

It was aimed at strengthening education structures and skills of members of the communities to enable them to adequately contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the Free compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE).

Mr Obeng-Darko said the SMCs and PTAs have become major partners in bringing about changes that were needed in the basic school system. He said it was, therefore, crucial to equip and empower SMCs and PTAs to enable them to support communities to promote quality education. Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Community Participation (CPC) Co-ordinator, called on all stakeholders in education to collaborate efforts to promote teaching and learning. He advised the participants to foster good relationship between themselves and the members of their communities to ensure transparency and accountability in their financial management of schools. Mr J. Kankam-Ampong, an Assistant Director of Education asked the participants to regularly review their activities to enable them to achieve their vision.
