Communities complain about pace of work by contractors

Kyekyewere (Ash), June 3, GNA- Communities along the 30 kilometres Kwaman-Kyekyewere roads in the Afigya-Sekyere district have complained about the slow pace of works being done by the contractors on the road.

They have therefore appealed to the government to bring pressure to bear on the contractors to enable them to complete the project on schedule.

The communities are Amoako, Kwaman, Boamang, Soko, Tetrem, Kyekyewere and Kyinamanso.

Mr Joseph Addai-Antwi, assembly member for Kyekyewere, and Mr Owusu Mensah, an executive member of the Afigya-Sekyere West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who jointly conducted newsmen to inspect work on the project on Wednesday, said with the setting in of the rains, it could become pretty difficult transporting food crops, cocoa and timber from the area.

They said: “apart from the bad road, there are sections that are very slippery where cars get stuck with any little amount of rainfall”. They said they would also want the bridge spanning the Offin River to be re-designed and expanded.

Dr Osafo Ampadu, Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Feeder Roads, when contacted, confirmed that there had been delays but said the problem was the difficulty in securing regular funding. He said the problem had now been effectively resolved and assured the people that the project would be completed soon.
