Nkwanta (V/R), Nov. 30, GNA- The Ghana Government has secured 500,000 Euros from the Government of Dutch to be used as compensation for people living in fringe communities of the Kyabobo National Park in the Nkwanta District in the Volta Region, next year. Professor Nii Ashie Kotey, Chief Executives of the Forestry Commission, who announced this, said the communities included Kue, Keri, Pawa, Gekrong, Odomi and Shaire.
The Chief Executive, was in Shaire as a result of a long standing misunderstanding between the people and officials of the Park over the demarcation of the boundary of the Park. He said government was committed to making the area a tourism destination and appealed to the parties involved in the misunderstanding to accept any decision taken by government to help bring development to the area.
Mr. Vincent Yentumy, spokesperson for the people of Shaire, said where the boundary of the Park was demarcated included the arable portion of Shaire land and appealed to government to appreciate the people’s concern.
Nana Kofi Adu-Nsiah, Executive Director of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission, said the people of Shaire would benefit a lot if the Park was developed into a tourism site due to its greenery environment and its tourism potentials.
