Communities advised against construction of unauthorised ramps

Twifo Praso (C/R), March 28, GNA – Nana Kobena Abaka chairman of the Praso branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has advised communities to desist from constructing unauthorised speed ramps on the highways. Speaking to the GNA at Praso on Sunday, he recalled the recent directive of the Ghana Highway Authority against the construction of a unauthorised ramps. He said it was only the authority, which had the power to construct speed ramps on the highways.

Nana Abaka expressed regret that in spite of the directive certain communities had been erecting ramps to check over-speeding. He said while their intention was laudable, it should be done with the control and supervision of the Ghana Highway Authority. Nana Abaka noted that some of the ramps were too high and situated at wrong places of the highway, which damaged vehicles and even led to accidents. He made special mention of the Cape Coast – Praso road and appealed to the Authority to ensure that all unauthorised ramps were removed. Nana Abaka also urged assembly members to assist in the exercise.
