Several members of parliament have lamented bitterly over the failure of the District Assembly Common Fund to release their MPs share of the fund to them.
According to them, the Administrator is in arrears for a period of four quarters, and this is affecting their capacity to deliver on their pledges to their constituents.
“My brother, more and more, we are becoming unpopular with our constituents because we are unable to meet basic pledges,” said the MPs in interviews with the Daily Searchlight yesterday.
Speaking to this newspaper, the MPs said that they have very little or no resource to meet their pledges to the constituents since their share of the fund is all that they can depend on for development.
“For over a year now, we have not been paid…numerous inquiries at the Common Fund Secretariat but to no avail,” they complained.
A general financial crunch has rocked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, with all the statutory agencies affected.
All the public funds, such as the NHIS Fund, the Road Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund are all in arrears. As at press time on Tuesday, the Administrator of the DACF was not picking his calls.
However, sources close to the Fund told the Daily Searchlight that representation has been made to the Minister of Local Government to intervene to ensure that some payments are made.
