Committees inaugurated to protect forests

Goaso, (B/A) Oct. 28, GNA- About 50 Community Forest Committees (CFCS) engaged in the protection of forests in the Asunafo District have been inaugurated at Goaso.

The committees, with 300 members were formed under the auspices of the Rural Development Youth Association (RUDEYA) a Non-governmental Organization (NGO).

The committees are expected to serve as watchdogs for illegal logging and lumbering and other forest product abuse which continue to affect forests in the district.

The Asunafo District Forestry Forum Chairman Alhaji Ishak A. Bonsu inaugurated the committees and appealed to members of the committees to expose forest destroyers.

Alhaji Ishak Bonsu reminded them of the enormity and the risk involved in their task and urged them to work as a group so as to outwit any perpetrator.

The Queen mother of Goaso and Chairman for the function, Nana Yaa Akyaa called on the CFCS to put the interest of their communities and the nation first and do their work well.
