Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. The Ministry of Mines and Energy today named a three-man committee to investigate an alleged duping of the Electricity Company of Ghana (EGC) by Union Electrik, Nigeria Limited. This follows reports that the Government of Ghana has been duped by Union Ellectrik Nigeria Ltd. through a contract awarded for the refurbishment of 44 transformers belonging to ECG. The committee comprising Dr. Oteng Adjei, acting director of power, Mr. E. Sekor, senior programme officer, (legal) and Mr. G.K. Brobbey, principal purchasing officer, all of the ministry, is to submit its report to the Minister by Monday, October 20. It is also to find out whether enough provision was made to ensure that ”no losses would be incurred by ECG in the event of the failure of Union Electrik to deliver and if this action or inaction have contributed to the present position of the ECG”, the statement said.
