Committee to investigate Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly impasse

A committee of inquiry has been set up to look into allegations leveled against the Bolgatanga Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Alhassan Abubakar and other officials of the Assembly.

This followed a petition from some assembly members to the Upper East Regional Minster, Mr Mark Woyongo, copied to the Office of the President of Ghana, demanding the transfer of Mr Abubakar and other officials of the assembly.

According to the petition, Mr Abubakar’s actions were tailored towards favouring members of the assembly suspected to be New Patriotic Party sympathizers, a claim another group of the assembly refuted.

The committee has been asked to investigate the causes of the creeping canker of factionalism and divisiveness that have endangered the smooth operations of the assembly.

The committee, which has two weeks to submit its report, would also investigate the genuineness and credibility or otherwise of the actors and originators of the petition, and make appropriate recommendations.

The committee would be headed by Mr Paul Apanga, Regional Director of Education with Mr Callistus Doozie-Kpikakpe of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic, as Secretary.

The other members are Mr Bernard Atinga, a retired public servant, Mr Joseph Jeffery Panin and Madam Adwoa Sotia Boakye as members.

Mr Woyongo inaugurating the committee last Friday, entreated the members to use their expertise to effectively address the issue.

Mr Paul Apanga, Chairman of the committee assured the regional minister that the committee would work assiduously and independently to examine the petition .**
