Committee set up to investigate shooting incident in Wa

Wa, Dec. 5, GNA – The Upper West Regional Security Council [REGSEC] on Tuesday set up an independent committee to investigate the circumstances that led to a shoot-out resulting in the death of Mr Salaudeen Iddrisu on the night of January 3, 2005.

The committee, which is to be chaired by Mr Justice Ofori Atta, Wa High Court judge also includes the Regional Commander of the BNI, Regional Crime Officer, Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and the Headmaster of Islamic Secondary School at Wa.

The committee is expected to submit its report to the REGSEC within two weeks from Friday January 7, 2005.

The REGSEC also appealed to the Regional Police Command to placed three policemen involved in the incident in police custody until the committee completed its work.

The REGSEC urged Wa residents to conduct themselves well and volunteer useful information that would benefit the committee to come out with an acceptable report on the incident.
