Committee set up to investigate collection of unapproved school fees

Takoradi, Nov.6, GNA- The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Directorate of Education has set-up a committee to investigate allegations of illegal collection of school fees above the official rate in some basic schools in the metropolis.

Mr A. A. Daramanu, acting Metropolitan Director of Education, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi on Thursday.

He said the setting-up of the committee followed many reports of collection of unapproved fees by some schools in the metropolis. Mr Daramanu, who is also the Western Regional Director of Education, said the committee’s work would cover not only schools that have being accused of over-charging but also all the 300 basic schools in the metropolis.

He said the committee that was set-up in first week in October is expected to submit its report by the end of November.

Mr Daramanu said the magnitude of the offence of schools found to be charging unapproved fees would determine the action that would be taken against them in line with the code of ethics and rules of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
