Accra The ministerial committee on Premix Administration and Distribution for Canoe Fishermen today held its first review workshop in Accra. It was attended by fishermen from the 10 regions to re-examine their activities through the first year of existence and map out strategies for the next herring season due in June. Also present were Chief Fishermen and Executives of approved fishermen’s groups. Mr David Hammond, chairman of the Committee, called for the establishment of a strong canoe fishermen’s group with one voice to fight for their rights. He thanked the government for not increasing the price of premix fuel when the price of petroleum products went up in February this year. “This means that government has the interest of fishermen at heart and is committed to seeing them through difficult times”. Mr Hammond warned operators and executives of service stations to desist from trying to increase the present price of premix fuel. He said disciplinary action will be taken against such persons found to be involved in deals meant to create undue hardships for fishermen. The present price of premix fuel is pegged at 2,300 cedis a gallon.
