Commission asks TEWU to call off strike

Accra, June 6, GNA – The National Labour Commission (NLC) on Tuesday directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to convene the ‘Standing Negotiating Committee on Teachers, Educational Workers Union (TEWU)’ on Thursday, June 8, 2006 to address the nationwide strike of the Union.

The NLC said; 93by this directive and with the intervention of the Commission, TEWU is to immediately call-off the nationwide strike action’.

A statement signed by Mr J. K. Bapuuroh, Acting Executive Secretary of NLC, said negotiations could not be held at any time when an industrial action was ongoing as stipulated by the Labour Act. TEWU is to take note and comply with the order with the view to arriving at a solution, the statement said. 06 June 06
