Come clear on Free SHS funding – Minority to Akufo-Addo

The Minority in parliament has charged President Nana Akufo-Addo to clarify “whether his government will use or not use the Heritage Fund for SHS education”.

This was contained in a press release issued by Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi on Friday, 17 February.

Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo had indicated that government may use the Heritage Fund established under section 10 of the Petroleum Revenue Management Act of 2011 Act 815 to fund the key campaign promise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to implement a Free Senior High School system.

However, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta later pointed out in an interview with the media that government would not fund the programme with the Heritage Fund.

The Minority has said it finds the conflicting statements from the Senior Minister and the Finance Minister confusing, needing clarification from the president himself.
