Collapsed bridge at Abrepo-Kokoso posing threat to community

The collapse of a bridge linking residents of Kokoso, a Kumasi suburb to Abrepo in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) poses a threat to people living in the area and vehicles and motorists who use the road.

The bridge is located on a minor road which is the only means of transportation for the people in the area.

Apart from workers who use the road via the bridge, members of the Grace of God Church are badly affected.

Also, students of the Grace Bible College and pupils of Justking International School, Pentecost Preparatory School, St. Matthew School, Future Rich School, the Abrepo MA Basic School and Barrack Schools close to the Kokoso area are also badly affected by the situation.

The Leader and Founder of Grace of God Church, Rev. Kingsley Aning Bonsu who spoke to the Daily Democrat in an interview said the collapse of the bridge has put fear in many people living in and around the Abrepo-Kokoso area.

He said apart from education and religious retardation, the situation has halted both economic and social activities, creating an uncomfortable living environment for the people.

He recalled that in June 2013, the River Akos flowing under the bridge overflew its banks and swallowed the bridge and in an attempt to cross the bridge, a 30-year-old-man, Emmanuel Boateng and his eight-year-old daughter, Jessica Boateng, got drowned.

Rev. Bonsu said residents in the area cannot afford to wait for another mishap to happen and that while praying to God for his intervention, it was pertinent to call on the authorities of the KMA to come to the aid of the people by constructing the bridge.
