CODEO to observe Amenfi West by-election

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) will observe the upcoming Wassa Amenfi West bye-election scheduled for Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in the Western Region, the group has said in a statement signed by Coordinator Albert Kofi Arhin.

The election has become necessary to replace the late John Gyetuah who died a few weeks ago.

CODEO says it will deploy 40 stationed observers to 40 randomly sampled polling stations across the 19 Electoral Areas in the Constituency on the day of voting.

Ahead of the election-day, CODEO has already deployed 3 pre-election environment observers who are following the conduct of the elections.

The pre-election observers will roam throughout the constituency and file reports on political activities in the lead up to the election.

CODEO will issue a pre-election statement capturing stakeholders’ preparations, conduct and the general political atmosphere ahead of the election.

On polling day on Tuesday, the 40 Election Day observers will also observe various aspects of the election process including polling station set up and its opening, the application and compliance to voting procedures, conduct of polling officials, party agents and security officials and the counting and declaration of results.

The group will issue a mid-day situational report on day of voting capturing opening of the polls, voting and conduct of EC officials and all other stakeholders in the elections.

CODEO has entreated “all stakeholders, particularly political parties and candidates involved in this exercise to observe the cardinal electoral principle of freeness and fairness in the discharge of their various roles. It is also our hope that the election will be conducted in a largely transparent, competent and professional manner. CODEO will share its observation findings with the public at the end of the exercise.”
