CODEO speaks to the media ahead of Friday’s election

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), the largest domestic election observation network in Ghana has held an International Press Conference at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center ahead of the December 7 general elections.

The purpose of the conference was to share with key stakeholders and the general public CODEO’s arrangements to deploy over 4000 trained, accredited and non-partisan observers in all the 275 constituencies throughout the country.

The conference was also to elucidate CODEO’s comprehensive election 2012 support program which was launched in March, 2012 under the theme: “Ghana’s Election 2012: Civil Society Intervention Toward Peaceful and Credible Elections”.

In their remarks the Co-chairs of the Coalition, Prof Miranda Greenstreet and Justice VCRAC Crabbe noted that CODEO will employ the Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology whereby rapid response observers (RROs) will be deployed to a nationally representative random sample of polling stations to report on the conduct of voting and the official vote count as announced by officials of the Electoral Commission at polling stations.

The well attended conference attracted representatives of civil society organizations, the media, academia, religious bodies, Diplomatic Corps and the general public.
