COCOBOD saddled with GHC2bn road contract debt – Deputy Roads Minister reveals

The Ghana COCOBOD is heavily indebted to road contractors to the tune of GH?2billion, a deputy Minister for Roads & Highways, Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi has revealed.

Mr. Owusu-Aduomi who is also the MP for Ejisu made this revelation on the floor of Parliament, Friday, when answering to some questions regarding the Hohoe-Jasikan road stretch, a 30km long which stretches from Hohoe, through Biakoye to Jasikan Districts in the Volta Region.

He had been queried to respond to a question posed by the MP for Buem, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, as to why Rolider, the road contractor who is constructing the road from Jasikan District towards Hohoe, is no more on site with equipment and staff.

The Hohoe-Jasikan road stretch is a COCOBOD funded project.

Work on the project by the said contractor has been suspended due to delay in payment for work done since March, 2017.

Mr. Owusu-Aduomi commenting on the issue told the House that the delay in payment to the contractor is as a result of unavailability of funds, which he attributed to the current status of funding agency, COCOBOD.

He said COCOBOD is heavily indebted to road contractors that it has to suspend most of the projects it is funding until funds are available.
