The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, has initiated legal action against the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly called Abronye, for alleged defamation.
In a writ filed at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Dr. Abbey is seeking GH¢20 million in damages, arguing that comments Abronye made on radio were false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation.
According to the statement of claim, Abronye alleged that Dr. Abbey carries his personal chair from Accra to cocoa-growing communities when engaging farmers. He further accused the COCOBOD boss of deliberately removing the institution’s Finance Director in order to divert funds earmarked for cocoa farmers.
