Cocoa spraying gangs supervisors warned against pilfering

Twifo-Praso, (C/R), July 14 GNA- Supervisors of cocoa spraying gangs, were on Thursday, warned against extortion of monies from farmers and the sale of chemicals meant to be supplied free of charge, for spraying.

The Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira District Chief Executive (DCE), who issued the warning, expressed concern that reports reaching his office, indicated that some supervisors, were indulging in such malpractices and that anyone caught would be made to face the full rigours of the law. He was opening a day’s ‘cocoa spraying training’ workshop for 115 gang supervisors in the district, to upgrade their knowledge on the handling of chemicals and report writing.

The DCE emphasized the importance the government attached to the exercise and asked the participants to take the workshop seriously. Mr Danny Hagan, Desk Officer in-charge of the spraying exercise, said the exercise will commence in the district next month and that between 60 to 70 hectares of cocoa farms are expected to be sprayed. He gave the assurance that there was enough chemicals for the exercise.

The national coordinator of cocoa disease/ pest control, Mr Obeng Adjinah who conducted the workshop, urged the supervisors to ensure proper care of the spraying machines. 14 July, 05
