The Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) last Saturday held a get-together for its retired staff as part of activities to mark its 75th anniversary.
The event created a platform for over 400 retirees to interact with management and staff of the research institution.
The initiative was also used to name the main gate to the CRIG after its former Executive Director, the late Dr Michael Roy Appiah.
The Executive Director of CRIG, Dr Franklin M. Amoah, commended the retired staff for contributing towards the development and growth of CRIG.
He said CRIG had initiated several projects that had attracted competitive international funding and mentioned some of them as the African Cocoa Breeders Programme, Integrated Pest and Disease Project in Africa to control indigenous pest and disease, the African Cashew Initiative, and the Mabang Megacaria (black pod) and Selection Programme.
According to Dr Amoah, the Mabang Selection Programme will enable CRIG come up with seeds that are resistant to the black pod disease.
