Cocoa farming communities slated for solar-powered hand pumping machines

Abekoase (E/R), Sept. 18, GNA – Government in collaboration with Ghana Cocoa Marketing Board, have sponsored the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), to drill a total of 3,000 solar-powered hand pumping machines in all cocoa growing areas.

Mr Clement T. Bugase, Chief Executive Officer of CWSA told a media interaction at Abekoase, a cocoa growing community in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region that the three-year project seeks to reduce the stress people go through to get water to drink in the rural areas.

He said the solar- powered hand pumping machines would save the aged from exerting too much energy in getting safe drinking water.

Mr Abekoase said a sizable tank would be provided to the project beneficiary communities for water storage as well as a standing pipe.

Mr Yaw Djarko, Chairman of CWSA Board of Directors implored the community members to take good care of the machines in order to prolong their lifespan.

An opinion leader of the town, Mr Francis Darko expressed appreciation for the project, which he said would resolve the water problem facing residents.
