Cocoa farmers call for rehabilitation of road

Goaso (B/A) Oct. 25, GNA – Cocoa farmers at Adeeyepena in Asunafo North District of Brong-Ahafo have appealed to the government to re-construct a two- kilometre road to ease the transportation of their produce to Agyakrakrom junction.

Nana Abuu Sarkodie, Odikro of the area told the Ghana News Agency that the farmers themselves had all along rehabilitated the road, constructed about 25 years ago by a timber company. He said the many streams on the road made the farmers to expend a lot of resources on the rehabilitation works and with the current poor condition of the road, the consider the cost of its reconstruction to be beyond their capabilities.

“The volume of agricultural produce in the area is very appreciable and without government assistance, the farmers would incur substantial financial losses, which will discourage them.

“The current condition of the road has aggravated the plight of the farmers who have had to carry their cocoa and other produce on their heads on the four- kilometre journey to Bediakokrom.
