Cocoa Farmers at Mpon appeal for the rehabilitation of road

Sankore (B/A), July 12, GNA – Cocoa Farmers at Mpom, near Sankore in Asunafo South District

of the Brong-Ahafo Region has appealed to the District Assembly and Department of Feeder Roads

to rehabilitate the five-kilometer road that linked them to Sankore. Speaking to newsmen at Kwapong, Mr Halifax Addae, Assemblyman and spokesperson for the

farmers, said the recent torrential rains had made the road impassable and had therefore cut the

farmers off from Sankore, where they sell their goods. He said several tones of cocoa and other food stuffs had been locked up to go rotten on the

farms, due to the nature of the road. In a related development, Sawire Anafour, a farming community near Goaso in Asunafo North

Municipality, has been cut-off from the rest of the municipality following the collapse of three

wooden bridges that linked the community with other town and villages. Nana Kwame Manu, Odikro of the area, told newsmen that apart from the loss of food produce,

the situation posed a serious threat to the life of children who pass on the broken bridges to

attend school at Pomakrom, a nearby town. “All the bridges in the area have collapsed and farmers have to lay heavy logs on them before

they could cross to their farms,” he said. Nana Manu said five cocoa farmers have lost their lives on their way to attend hospital at

Goaso due to the poor nature of the road.
