Cocoa farmers appeal for their bonus

Akim Oda (E/R), Feb. 6, GNA- About 150 cocoa farmers in both the Birim North and South Districts who sold their cocoa to BIGFAT Buying Company have appealed to the government to compel the company to pay them their bonuses.

Making the appeal through Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda on Thursday, the farmers alleged that, while other cocoa farmers who sold their produce to different buying companies were paid their bonuses between January and May last year, the BIGFAT company had up to date failed to pay theirs.

The farmers said the continuous refusal of the company to honour its obligation was causing a lot of distress to them and appealed to the government to come to their aid.

When contacted, the Akim Oda District manager of BIGFAT company Mr Okyere Darko blamed Management for the unfortunate situation. He said several appeals to Management to release monies to him to pay the farmers fell on death ears.
