Cocoa farmers appeal for soft loans

Kotokuom-Nwirem (Ash.), May 18, GNA – Cocoa farmers at Kotokuom-Nwirem and surrounding villages in the Atwima Mponua District have appealed to the government to facilitate the granting of loans to them for the expansion of their farms.

Mallam Amadu Bimoba, Chief farmer of the area, made the appeal on behalf of the farmers when he led the Ghana News Agency to inspect his 10-acre cocoa farm and 1,600 cocoa seedlings nursery.

He said even though they appreciated the efforts government was making to improve the cocoa sector, a lot more needed to be done. Mallam Bimoba said lack of funds was a major drawback on increased production because farmers lacked the resources with which to expand their farms.

He commended George Boakye Danquah, a retired Field Assistant of the Cocoa Services Division, who has been offering free technical support to farmers in the area.
