Cocoa beans thief jail

Brakwa (C/R), Oct. 7, GNA – A 19-year-old unemployed, Kojo Quaidoo, described by the Police as a 93seasonal cocoa beans thief”, was on Thursday jailed 14 months by the Breman Asikuma Magistrate Court for unlawful entry and stealing 47 kilograms of dried cocoa beans valued at GHc150.00. Quaidoo, a native of Brakwa in the Central Region, pleaded guilty to both charges.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Daniel Tawiah told the court presided over by Mrs Cynthia Andy Hammond that on September 29 this year, Paa Kow, the owner of the cocoa beans, saw Quaidoo in his room at about 23.45 hours pouring dried cocoa beans from a container into a sack. Inspector Tawiah said the convict took to his heels when he saw the complainant.

Paa Kow raised an alarm and Quaidoo was apprehended and escorted to the Brakwa Police Station and charged with the offences. Police Inspector Tawiah added that in the 2009/2010, as well as the 2010/2011 cocoa seasons, Quaidoo had embarked on similar operations but as he was considered a minor then, the case was settled out of court. 7 Oct 11.
