Co-coordinator advises farmers against bush burning

Odomase (B/A), Dec. 29, GNA – Nana Rockson Kofi Duodu, zonal co-coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at Busunya in Nkoranza District, has advised farmers to engage the services of fire volunteers when preparing for the new farming season. He said the measure was to check the outbreak of bushfires that could spread to destroy other farms and properties.

Addressing the people at separate meetings at Odumase, Akrudwa Number One and Two, Akokonti and Taaho, the zonal co-coordinator appealed to assembly members, unit committees and traditional authorities to support and encourage fire volunteers. Mr. Duodu cautioned farmers, palm wine tapers and charcoal burners to be careful in their operations and that group hunting was still an offence punishable by the law.

He urged the fire volunteers to ensure that the people did not pollute the water bodies by using poisonous chemicals to fish. 29 Dec 06
