Advocacy group, Centre for National Affairs (CNA) has impressed upon the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood to empanel a team of Judges to investigate the Woyome case.
This followed the former Attorney General, Martin Hamidu’s suspicion that government was intentionally delaying the prosecution of businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome over the GhC 51 million cedis paid to him as Judgment debt.
According to the Centre for National Affairs, Ghanaians were impatient over the delay in prosecuting Mr. Woyome.
A Senior Policy Analyst at the Centre for National Affairs, Rocky Obeng told Citi News the group would join forces with other advocacy groups to ensure that the case is properly dealt during the legal vacation period.
“The option that the centre has considered is that we would be working with other civil society groups to petition the Chief Justice to exercise her authority to make a dispensation for the case to be held during the legal vacation period.
“This comes on the back of the suspicion that the case could be adjourned to the fourth of June and once that happens probably the next adjournment date could be in July by which time the Judicial vacation could have set in; if that happens we feel it will be unfair to the parties involved especially Mr. Woyome and the people of Ghana who are emotionally tied to this matter,” Rocky Obeng indicated.**
