Club-wielding NPP supporters attack Starr FM reporter

Starr FM’s Upper East regional correspondent Edward Adeti was at the mercy of enraged New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters Thursday evening at an event being organised by National Chairman Paul Afoko.

Adeti had gone to cover a commotion which had ensued at the venue of the meeting – Azonsolum Guest House – but became a victim when the supporters pounced on him and beat him mercilessly.

The supporters who were wielding clubs and broken bottles among other offensive weapons chased out the party’s national chairman and the general secretary Kwabena Agyepong for allegedly organising a meeting without the regional chairman’s knowledge.

According to Adeti, he approached the furious supporters to know of their grievances, but suddenly they ended up slapping him without any provocation.

Adeti, who has been in pains since Thursday night, was given medical attention, having reported the physical attack to the Bolgatanga police.

Meanwhile, the deputy communications director of the NPP Anthony Karbo has rendered an unqualified apology to the reporter and the EIB Network – owners of Starr FM.

“I’m very sorry and completely not an issue the NPP will endorse,” Karbo told sister station Kasapa 102.3 FM. “We will give you all the needed support.”

He added: “I will get the national youth organiser and the regional youth organiser to bring all those who assaulted you to book.”
