Closure of Buipe, Yapei bridges: Stranded commuters at Yeji beg for ferry

Stranded commuters and drivers at Yeji in the Pru District of the Brong Ahafo Region are calling on government to come to their aid.

Following the closure of the Buipe and Yapei bridges, travellers going to the Northern Region, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have diverted their routes through Yeji and Makango.

However, many commuters and drivers since last week have been stranded at Yeji as the MV Akrade Ferry which has to cart them to Makango is not in a good shape to do so.

The MV Akrade which operates at Yeji lacks the ability to carry as many vehicles as expected across the river.

The situation is creating tension at Yeji as drivers feel they have not been treated fairly.

They are, therefore, calling on government to provide a ferry that is in good shape to carry them to Makango as soon as possible.
