Mankessim (C/R), Jan. 31, GNA-The Mfantseman Municipal Chapter of Ghan= a Association of French Teachers (GAFT) last week-end organised an inter-schools French competition for 10 Junior High Schools at Kwesil Ansah in the Central Region. The competition was to enhance the writing and speaking of French in the country since Ghana shares boundaries with French Speaking countries. In addition, it was to test the pupils’ capabilities of understanding the French language. Students from Closedfields School at Mankessim emerged winners with 85 points. They were followed by students from Cambridge Preparatory School also at Mankessim with 79 points, students from Romowill International School from Mankessim took the third place with 77 points. Methodist JHS, Mankessim came fourth with 68 points, Kessim ‘A’ JHS, Mankessim came fifth with 66 points and Dominase Municipal Assembly JHS cam= e sixth with 63 points.
Students from Kwesil Ansah Municipal Assembly JHS came seventh with, 6= 3 points. Kessim ‘B’ JHS at Mankessim took the eighth position with 60 points= , Saltpond Lower-Town JHS was ninth with 58 points and GlobalDoors JHS from Mankessim took the tenth position with 57 points. Certificates of participation were presented to each school and French books donated by GAFT were distributed while the first three winners were each presented with a French dictionary.
Mrs Vivian Etroo, Mfantseman Municipal Director of Education, congratulated the winning schools and urged the rest to take their studies in the French Language serious to enable them excel in life because the French language would add value to their horizon. She noted that such competition afforded the students opportunity to study the language in a leisurely and practical way. Mrs Etroo commended the French teachers and called for more support from the Government and philanthropists for future competitions. Mr Daniel Yawovi Siabi, Central Regional Coordinator of GAFT, commende= d the participating schools for their collaborative efforts in the success of the programme.
He noted that the completion formed part of the activities planned towards the Fourth Anniversary celebration of the Association in the municipality. Other activities included a trip to French speaking countries annually for practical attachment to whet their interest in the French Language.
